Margaret Powell

Margaret Powell

Margaret has practised family law since 1985 joining the firm in 1989. She obtained an LLB in 1974 and a Diploma in Social Work in 1981 and previously worked at the Wellington Community Law Centre.

She has been regularly appointed as a lawyer for children since the early 1990’s, and as lawyer to assist the Court particularly in cases with an international aspect. She has also been appointed by the New Zealand Central Authority to deal with cases involving abduction or retention of children under the Hague Convention.


Wendy Davis

Wendy Davis

Wendy graduated LLB(Hons) from the University of Auckland in 1979 and LLM(Hons) from Victoria University in 1995. Wendy and Margaret practised as Margaret Powell and Wendy Davis until 2009, when Cuba Family Law was established. Wendy convened the Law Society’s Family Law Section Domestic Violence Standing Committee from 2004 – 2009, served as a lay member of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal from 2004 – 2009, and was inaugural chair of the Family Violence Death Review Committee from 2008 - 2011. She practises in all areas of family law and acts as Lawyer for Child and Lawyer for Subject Person in PPPR cases.


Liz Lewes

Liz joined the firm in 2007 as an associate and became a partner in 2008. Liz graduated from the University of Otago in 1996 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Studies. Liz has over 15 years experience as a specialist family lawyer practising in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Liz became Lawyer for Child in 2006.

Liz has travelled extensively, enjoys the outdoors is married with 3 children.


Fiona Miller

Fiona Miller

Fiona joined our practice in 2009 and is an Associate. Fiona graduated from the University of Otago with a Postgraduate Diploma in Child Advocacy with Distinction. Fiona is from Scotland and graduated from the University of Dundee in 1991 with a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree. She specialised in Family and Child Law for 13 years in Scotland before relocating to New Zeland in 2007. Fiona requalified in New Zealand Law in 2008. Fiona has been accepted to do a PHD in Otago University focusing on the issue of children consenting to medical treatment.
Fiona is married with 2 children. She enjoys sport and teaches swimming.


Fiona Miller

Grace Wong

Grace joined the firm in May 2013. Grace graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2011 and was admitted to the bar in December 2011. She has worked as a court registry officer in both the Family Court and the Court of Appeal.
Grace enjoys travelling and sports, and is passionate about skating.


Patricia Chin

Patricia Chin

Patricia is an Associate member of the New Zealand Institue of legal executives and has worked as a legal executive for the past 18 years. She is experienced in conveyancing work, estate administration, wills, sale and purchase of businesses and family trust work.


Support staff

Liz Nikora and Chris Johnstone are our reliable and efficient support staff. Liz has a long history with the firm and has been with us since 2001. Chris joined us in 2008.
